Drama ini dibuat dengan latar belakang tahun 1930 tentang seorang pahlawan yang bernama Lee kang To (Joo Won), yang mumpuni dalam seni bela diri, dan melawan orang-orang jepang pada masa koloninya. Pahlawan ini dikenal juga dengan sebuatan gaksital karena dia selalu memakai topeng untuk menyembunyikan wajahnya. Gaksital adalah salah satu dari topeng drama traditional yang berpipi merah untuk pengantin wanita. Lee Kang To dari luarnya terlihat biasa tapi dia cukup aktif dalam gerakan independen melawan rezim imperialis jepang dalam salah satu periode tergelapnya.
